Our Team of Bariatric Surgery Professionals
My Bariatric Solutions has built a reputation for providing outstanding and compassionate care. Patients from throughout the Metroplex and even from outside of Texas have traveled to our weight loss surgery center to receive treatment from our team of talented weight loss experts. Dr. Scott Stowers leads a team of multi-disciplinary professionals who specialize in the causes and complications of obesity, its treatment, and related issues. Our specialists include a bariatric nurse coordinator, registered dietitian, an exercise physiologist and multiple psychologists. We can also provide additional expertise in the areas of cardiology, pulmonary medicine (sleep apnea), and physical therapy. Anesthesiologists, our office staff, and the patient's personal physician are also involved.
Amanda Cross, Program Director
I am the Program Director of the My Bariatric Solutions program. In conjunction with Dr. Scott Stowers, I helped to establish the program in September 2006. I am dedicated to ensuring that you have easy access to all the resources available that will help you be successful. I help coordinate all aspects of your experience at My Bariatric Solutions.
I was born in Lubbock, Texas and graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Exercise Science and Nutrition Science. I have my personal training certification through the American Council on Exercise and am also a Lifestyle and Weight Management Consultant. I am also a member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
It is very fulfilling to work with you throughout your weight loss journey. From informational seminars to post-operative follow-ups, it is amazing how much you change in just a short time.
Melinda Lewis, Office Manager
I am responsible for making sure the clinic runs smoothly and efficiently. I oversee the billing and collections of the surgical practice. I answer patient’s questions regarding billing on the physicians side. I have worked for Dr. Stowers for over twenty years.
I am from originally from San Antonio and have lived in Paradise, TX for 30 years. I enjoy spending time with my family and singing in the church choir and shopping. In my spare time, I love to cook and do "Pinterest" crafts.
Beryl Brigham, RN, MSN, ACNP-BC
I have been working as a Hospitalist for the last seven years and have recently joined the team at My Bariatric Solutions. I have been a nurse for 30 years and am a Board Certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. I graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a bachelors degree in Nursing in 1984. I then attended the University of Texas at Arlington to obtain my Masters in Nursing after 20 years in the ICU/CCU and ER.
I am primarily located in the hospital during the week. You will see me in the recovery room immediately after surgery and I will then be following you during your stay in the hospital. My role is to follow you in the hospital after surgery in order to manage your care. This may include pain and nausea management, blood pressure and blood glucose monitoring or simply addressing questions or concerns.
I am very excited to be a part of our team and look forward to meeting each and every one of you.
Debbie McDougall, RN MS FNP-C, Mobile Unit Supervisor
I recently joined the My Bariatric Solutions team. I am a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner who oversees the Mobile Unit, also known as The Lap-Band Wagon.
The mobile unit travels to several cities in North Texas to see patients for Lap-band adjustments and routine weight loss surgery follow-ups. My team consists of an X-Ray Technologist and a Patient Care Technician/Driver.
My nursing career began as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in 1983. I graduated from Texas Christian University and became a Registered Nurse in 1990. I received my Master’s in Nursing from Texas Women’s University in Denton, TX. I have experience working in Surgery, Emergency Departments, Urgent Care Centers, and Administration.
I bring a great deal of nursing experience. I can relate to what you are going through as I too have had weight loss surgery. I truly understand what it is like first hand.
Sharon McLemore, RN, MSN, NP-C
I am a Board certified Family Nurse practitioner and have been helping patients with chronic and acute medical problems going on ten years. Prior to becoming a Nurse Practitioner I worked with the most critical patients as an ICU and CCU nurse. As a Family Nurse Practitioner for the past four years, I have worked with patients with ailments ranging from cuts and sprains to life threatening cancers.
After earning my Associates Degree in Nursing from Weatherford College I completed both my Bachelors and Masters of Science in Nursing from Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Tx.

Mistey Patterson, RN, Bariatric Nurse Coordinator
I started with My Bariatric Solutions in July 2011 as a nurse coordinator. I coordinate with patients to ensure they meet all their pre-operative needs, answer any questions they may have pre/post op, visit all inpatient post-op patients before they discharge from the facility after a sleeve/bypass, order their labs for the year post op, get all lab results and discuss with physician, order medications, call all post op patients for f/u.
I perform Lap-Band adjustments when needed, if the mobile unit is traveling or a patient is having an emergent issue with the band, or if there is staff illness. I back-up clinic when needed and travel to Keller/Dallas when required. I participate in patient education when they are in the office to complete their pre-op paperwork (what surgery will be like, pain expected, etc).
Part of my responsibilities include coordinating monthly meetings with all department directors within WRHS. This ensures that every aspect of the patient’s care is met from admission to discharge. I help to ensure requirements are met/maintained so that our ASMBS COE is maintained. This includes data collection on all post-op patients at 1 month, 6 months, one year, and yearly thereafter. Participate in monthly nursing orientation classes and introduce all nursing staff to our program and its requirements.
I have been a nurse since 2005, graduated Summa Cum Laude from both LVN and RN programs, valedictorian of both classes. Work experience includes family practice clinic, home health, and bariatrics. I am working to obtain my CBN (Certified Bariatric Nurse) certificate this year. I too have struggled with weight and the ability to maintain weight loss. After seeing the success of so many of our patients, I decided to undergo the sleeve gastrectomy in Feb 2012. I have lost 65lbs to date and am excited with the positive changes that the surgery has enabled me to achieve with my overall health.
I am from Alvord, TX by marriage and have lived there for the past 19 years. I have two very active sons, 13 and 15, who are involved in football, baseball, and basketball. I love to watch them in their respective sports, and when the day is done, there isn’t time for many other hobbies.
Amy Gorena, Registered Licensed Dietitian - Dallas/Keller
I work with the patients on their health and nutrition goals. I have been with My Bariatric Solutions since February 2012 and am a Registered and Licensed Dietitian. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Biology from UT Austin (go Longhorns), and also received my Master of Science degree in Nutrition from Texas Woman’s University. Because of my educational background, I truly feel that I am an asset to our patients in helping them through the diet and nutritional changes needed to be successful in their weight loss journey.
I live in Dallas and love running and boxing.
Kelsey Shepperd, Registered Licensed Dietitian - Decatur
I started at My Bariatric Solutions in January of 2014. I get the opportunity to work with each of you on your nutrition requirements pre- and post-surgery. Not only do I educate, but I also strive to motivate you while adjusting your lifestyle habits making your bariatric experience even more successful. I have worked as a bariatric and clinical dietitian at various facilities in the DFW area. I love to see your inner and outer transformations throughout your entire journey and watching your health, energy, confidence, and enthusiasm increase dramatically.
I graduated from TWU with my Masters in Exercise and Sports Nutrition in 2013. I was a competitive gymnast as a child all the way through college. Health and fitness have always been a passion of mine. I have also worked as a Personal Trainer and Group Exercise instructor at TWU. I love helping others find exercise fun and meet their health and fitness goals.
I am originally from Georgia. I moved to Texas to go to school in 2005 and I have loved it ever since. I enjoy being outdoors and spending time with my husband and puppies. Hobbies include: exercise, camping, hiking, kayaking, four wheeling, sewing and crafts when time allows.
Patient Care Technicians
Febie Perez, Patient Care Tech - Decatur
I assist the Doctors with each patient during their visit in Decatur. I help to ensure that any necessary pre-testing is scheduled before surgery as well as any testing after surgery. This job is very rewarding to me as I have the opportunity of seeing each patient at every stage of their success, whether weight loss or resolution of their obesity related health issues. I am also responsible for scheduling and coordinating the surgery date with Wise Regional Health System.
I am from Texas and enjoy spending time with my two boys.
Astrid Riebel, Patient Care Tech - Decatur/Keller
I am a licensed Medical Assistant. I assist the doctor with patients in the Keller clinic. I am also responsible for scheduling all bariatric surgeries. I try to do my very best to schedule the surgeries on a day that the patient requests.
I coordinate surgery dates with the Surgery Department at Wise Regional Health Systems, sometimes the first day the patient requests is not available, but I do my very best to make sure that I can work with the patients schedule.I follow up with patients and/or other specialists regarding patient pre-testing making sure that the patient had a pleasant experience with outside entities.
I am originally from Heidelberg, Germany and moved to Decatur August 2012.
I enjoy spending time with my husband, my daughter and our animals.
I am my daughters biggest fan when she’s out on the soccer field.
Tara Ross, MA, Patient Care Tech - Dallas
I am responsible for assisting Dr. Stowers and Sharon McLemore, our nurse practioner with patients in the Dallas clinic and setting up pre-op testing. I received my associates of applied science-MA degree in 2007. I joined the My Bariatric Solutions team in April of 2013. Being a member of the team allows me to interact with remarkable people every day.
I was born and raised in Kansas City, MO and moved to Dallas, TX in 2012. I enjoy spending time with husband and daughter.

Colleen Smith, RT (R) Radiologic Technologist
I am responsible for handling the adjustments for Lap Band patients by using fluoroscopy. With this ability adjustments can be performed according to each individual patient. I have been a licensed Radiologic Technologist for five years and am a bariatric patient and therefore, really feel that I associate with our patients progress and questions.
I am from Rhome, TX. I love horseback riding, gardening, and spending time with my family.
Rich Carrera, Mobile Unit Technician
I make sure the Lap-Band wagon gets to its daily destination and perform front office work related to the patients checking in, rescheduling, taking payments, vitals, etc. I also see that the wagon is maintained both mechanically and aesthetically. I was able to move up to this position after being a patient advocate for nine months and really enjoy my personal interaction with the patients.
I am from Hot Springs, Arkansas and enjoy traveling, reading, spending time with family and most of all, my job.
Rhonda Greer, Financial Specialist - Decatur
I am the Financial Specialist at the Decatur location. I am available throughout the process to help each of you financially whether you are paying cash or using insurance. I can assist with financial lenders, 401K, and many other financial options. I have worked with insurance companies and finance for 15 years. I joined the My Bariatric Solutions team in March 2013. I am very passionate about this program and to be able to help each of you start your new journey is very rewarding.

Angie McShan, Financial Specialist - Dallas/Keller
I am the Financial Specialist that you will meet with at your initial consultation, both in the Dallas and Keller offices. After you have your initial consultation with Dr. Stowers, we will discuss all of your options and I will be able to guide you through all of the hoops that insurance may require, or explain to you how the self pay process works. I am here to help you through this journey and make it as easy as possible for you to achieve. I have worked in Bariatrics for 9 years and am very passionate about this program.
I grew up in Brownwood, Texas, and moved to DFW in 2005. I married my best friend in 2006 and we have two children that I absolutely thank God for every day.
Amanda Roberds, Insurance Benefit Specialist - Decatur
I am responsible for calling your insurance company to obtain your benefits. I have worked in the medical field for 12 years, although I’m new to Bariatrics I’m excited to work with My Bariatric Solutions.
I live in Alvord, Texas, have been married for 14 years and have two girls. I enjoy going to Church, spending time with my family, and reading.
Kristina Toles, Insurance Specialist
I am responsible for submitting your records to the insurance companies for approval. I do everything possible to make sure that you get approved for surgery. I have worked with insurance companies regarding bariatric surgery for over 6 years. I am passionate about getting the insurance companies to help your dreams come true.
I am from Dallas, TX and am currently pursuing a nursing degree. I love spending time with my son and family.
Vicki Bizzle, Receptionist - Dallas/Keller
I am responsible for greeting you with a bright smile when you walk in and making you feel as comfortable as possible as you wait for our Patient Care Tech to take you back for your appointment. I will answer any questions you may have, or will refer you to the person best suited to answer your questions. I am the last face you see as you check out to start your journey to a happy and healthier you. The best part of my job is seeing all of your wonderful results as well as your true pride and excitement.
I was born in Wyoming, but refer to Texas as my home since I have lived here since 1975. I am a single mother with 1 teenage daughter left in the nest.
Charla Edwards, Receptionist - Decatur
I am the Decatur office receptionist and also act as one of the Patient Coordinators on the Bariatric Team. I assist in ensuring the patient feels welcome to the practice and continues to return in order to receive top quality health care. I initialize, review and maintain patient information appropriately in accordance with Practice Policies and Procedures. I feel like I can really relate to our patients since I too have had the Lap-Band procedure.
I was born in Fort Worth, married, graduated with Associate Science Degree and love helping people take the first step into a healthier life with weight loss surgery.
Lisa Greene, Supervisor of Patient Coordination
I started with My Bariatric Solutions in January of 2011. I am the Supervisor of Patient Coordination, I am responsible for ensuring that patients receive the highest level of customer service, constantly and consistently. I read and review each of your survey's and make it a priority to ensure that you receive an exemplary experience. As a current patient, I am able to provide that support and work as an advocate on your behalf. I can completely relate to each of you and take pleasure in celebrating your weight loss successes.
I am a Decatur native and graduated from Mid-America Christian University with a Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Science and Ethics and am planning to pursue my Master’s Degree in psychology soon.
Wendy Casillas, Patient Advocate
As a Patient Advocate, I am here for all incoming calls, scheduling of appointments, answering a majority, if not all questions you may have. I also help maintain communication with you, the patient, and the providers here at My Bariatric Solutions. I thoroughly enjoy being a part of such a great team that works each and everyday to change people’s lives for the better through weight loss.
I have been a part of the My Bariatric Solutions family since July 2013. I am a proud Texas native, married to my best friend of 12 years and have a very enthusiastic 2 year old daughter. I will been finishing up my Associates of Applied Science degree within the next year.
Carley Jones, Patient Coordinator
I started with My Bariatric Solutions in January of 2014. My job is to ensure that our patient’s process goes smoothly from the time of the initial contact to surgery and beyond. I was born and raised in Decatur and graduated from Decatur High School in 2002. I attended Weatherford College and received a degree as a Pharmacy Technician in 2003. My husband, Jason and I have been married since 2003. We live in Decatur and have two daughters, Kenley and Macey. In my spare time I love to coach little league sports and spend time with my family.
Caitlin Mann, Patient Advocate
I started with My Bariatric Solutions in November of 2013. I feel it is a privilege to be one of the first to speak with you, our patients, when you are making the decision to start your weight loss journey with us. My goal is to do my best to make each of your experiences wonderful and successful.
I was raised in Aledo, TX but now reside in Wise County with my wonderful husband Jason. I am currently a licensed cosmetologist, have my Associates degree in general studies and plan to pursue a Bachelors degree.
Jennifer Moon, Patient Advocate
I am responsible for all incoming calls, answering questions, scheduling consults and appointments for the doctors and lap band wagon. Other responsibilities consist of replying to a number of email inquiries and maintaining patient literature. I have been with My Bariatric Solutions for over a year and recently became a patient myself. I am looking forward to a healthier life and being able to help others that are also making the change in their lives as well.
I had obtained my EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) certification and also studied medical terminology. I have worked in the medical field off and on for several years. I would like to possibly continue my education in nursing specializing in the bariatrics.
I am proud to say that I was born and raised in Fort Worth Texas. I have been happily married to my husband of 16 years and we have two beautiful and very active children.
Sarah Nemec, Patient Advocate
I started with the company in January of 2013. I have the privilege of speaking to patients when they first call in. I enjoy being an advocate for anyone looking to have weight loss surgery. I do my absolute best to make sure all patients experience at My Bariatric Solutions is the most enjoyable possible. I ensure all questions are answered. If I am unable to answer the question I make every effort to get the patient the answer.
Although I have been around a lot of nurses in my life I am relatively new to the medical field. I am perusing my dream of eventually becoming a nurse. I am hoping to be able to get back into school to peruse my nursing degree very soon.
I am married to my wonderful husband Matt of 10 years and have two beautiful children Mackenzie 7, and Kaleb 5. We recently moved up to the Dallas area although I was born and raised here. My family and I enjoy hanging out on the lake or anything that involves water and the outdoors, maintaining our garden and camping. I am excited to make your experience as enjoyable as possible.

I joined the team in November 2013. I will be one of the first people you talk to when you call in interested in becoming a member of our bariatric family. I am responsible for answering any questions you may have and getting you scheduled for your consult, adjustments and follow ups. I enjoy being a part of My Bariatric Solutions and bringing people one step closer to being a healthier more active you.
I was born and raised in Decatur, Texas. I am now married to my middle school sweet heart and raising our two sons Daymen and Zayden in Decatur also. I enjoy watching my son play sports, reading and spending as much time with my amazing family as I can.

Shane Watkins, BSK, CPT
I am responsible for helping patients meet their exercise and fitness goals, developing exercise programs, performing fitness assessments, and teaching proper exercise techniques. I have a Bachelor's of Science from Texas A&M University in Kinesiology, and I'm also an American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) certified personal trainer. I understand the challenge that patients undergo when starting an exercise program, and I hope to use my knowledge, skills and personal experience to make the process easier and more enjoyable. My goal is to help patients maintain their weight loss after surgery, to learn to exercise on their own, and make exercise a part of their lifestyle.
I am from Alvord, Texas, and I enjoy running in 5K, 10K, and half marathons, exercising, and keeping up with Aggie and Cowboy football.
Troy Dean Conkle, Regional Director of Bariatrics
I travel each day to areas of Texas and Oklahoma to educate physicians and their staff, as well as prospective patients on the various bariatric surgery options and the many benefits of the program at My Bariatric Solutions.
I have been in the medical industry since 2002 and relish the opportunity to work with physicians every day to change patients lives for the better.
I am married to the former Ms. Jennifer Berry, and we have two wonderful children, Caroline 11, and William 7. I received my BS in Business from Northwestern St. in 1994, and I received my Juris Doctorate from Texas Wesleyan School of Law in 2002.
Tanya Daberkow, Self Pay Collector
I am responsible for resolving account balances on all self-pay accounts. This includes responding to all incoming correspondence and inquiries from patients and other appropriate parties, billing all self-pay patients according to the insurance carrier, accepting payments and establishing payment arrangements as necessary.
I was born and raised in Texas. I settled down in Runaway Bay after serving in the U.S. Navy and travelling the world. I enjoy spending time with my husband, our 7 year old son and our newborn daughter.
