Insurance

We know insurance can be confusing and sometimes intimidating. We will work diligently for approval from your insurance company. Let us be on your side during this life changing process.

Each insurance company has requirements that must be met prior to surgery. Our Insurance Coordinator will meet with you during your consultation and discuss these requirements. We will assist you with obtaining any current documentation and records that you may already have. If further documentation, testing or non-surgical attempts at weight loss are needed we will assist you in meeting these requirements.

For those whose insurance may require a supervised weight loss program to meet their requirements for weight loss surgery, we are excited to offer a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary program. Our Insurance Coordinator will be available to assist you with enrolling in this program.

When all of the insurance criteria are met we will submit your documentation to your insurance company for approval. You will be scheduled for surgery upon insurance approval. If your case is denied by insurance we will help you in the appeals process.

Here are some items to start collecting to work through the insurance process:

  • Medical documentation of your weight history
  • Documentation detailing the use of diet drugs or medically prescribed diets
  • Records indicating participation in a commercial diet (Jenny Craig® and Weight Watchers®, for example)
  • Records indicating participation in an exercise program (gym memberships or intramural sports leagues)
  • Records indicating monthly visits with your Primary Care Physician in regards to weight loss attempts

Insurance companies will require official documentation before they are willing to subsidize or cover the costs of bariatric surgery. If you are missing documentation, you may be able to obtain copies from your physician or the commercial weight loss programs you have participated in.

Upon receiving the required documentation, our Insurance Coordinator at My Bariatric Solutions will review the material to ensure that it meets the guidelines outlined by the insurance company and send a letter of recommendation to your provider, recommending bariatric surgery for your continued health. Weight loss surgery cost savings over time

A recent study shows that bariatric surgery pays for itself in about 2 years. One important reason is that weight loss surgery may help to improve or resolve conditions associated with obesity, such as type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol, so patients save money on related prescription drugs, doctor visits, and hospital visits. In fact, monthly savings associated with laparoscopic bariatric surgery were shown to reach more than $900 as early as 13 months following surgery.
